Chittoor Observes Red Cross Day With Public Awareness

On Saturday, the Chittoor district branch of the Red Cross marked World Red Cross Day and World Thalassemia Day with a series of awareness programs, community service events, and student recognitions, commemorating the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, the Founder of the Red Cross.

The event began with dignitaries garlanding the portrait of Jean Henry Dunant at the Red Cross building on Palamaneru Road, Chittoor. Senior district leader Balakrishna Reddy hailed Dunant as the first Nobel Peace Prize laureate and praised his unmatched dedication to humanitarian service.

Thalassemia And Health Awareness Sessions Held
Red Cross medical staff conducted informative sessions on thalassemia, anemia, hemoglobin levels, protein, and oxygen, educating parents, students, and the general public. The program aimed to raise awareness about the genetic disease and its impact on public health.Community Service Initiatives Launched
As part of the day's community outreach, the Red Cross, in collaboration with RS Poorna Chaitanya Memorial Trust (founded by Aruna Kumari, Sahadeva Naidu), served breakfast at a homeless rehabilitation center. Later, with support from SETWIN Youth Services, breakfast was also provided to students, parents, and blood donors at the event venue.Students Recognized For Creative Excellence
A total of 36 students from various schools who excelled in essay writing and drawing competitions held in April were felicitated with certificates and mementos. Speaking to the students, dignitaries encouraged them to combine academics with community service and adopt a spirit of social responsibility.Blood Donation Drive Sees Youth Participation
Ten youth volunteers donated blood during the event at the Chittoor headquarters. Separately, a voluntary blood donation camp in Nagari town, organized by the Red Cross Blood Center staff, collected 25 units of blood. All donors were honored with appreciation certificates.Expansion Of Red Cross Services Announced
Red Cross Vice Chairman Govardhan Bobby announced that a new Red Cross building will soon be inaugurated in Chittoor, promising enhanced services and outreach to the local population.Participants included: Balakrishna Reddy, District Leader; Mohan Kumar, Senior Life Member, Red Cross; MR Aruna Kumari, CEO, SETWIN Tirupati; Pradeep Kumar, Red Cross Executive Member; MV Sridhar Reddy, Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra; Volunteers, Red Cross officials, teachers, parents, and students; District Red Cross Secretary Sahadeva Naidu coordinated the program, supported by the Blood Center team including AO Gopi, Coordinator Chiranjeevi, Accountant Parvathi, and staff Kumar, Usharani, and Mary.
